Ed. Riley's Ministry to the poor is a tax-exempt non governmental organization founded by Rev. Edward Riley, O.P., a Dominican Priest and a member of St. Albert the Great Province, USA.

Fr. Riley is currently serving as a missionary in Nigeria in the Dominican Province of St. Joseph the Worker (Nigeria and Ghana).

He has been in Nigeria since 1968. Most of the time, he taught in the Diocesan Major Seminary of SS. Peter and Paul and in the Dominican Institute in Ibadan. In the past, he was the Director of Novices and Director of Students and Director of Studies, but now his principal work is serving the poor.

An average of forty persons of all faiths are catered for each month. This includes provision of food and clothing, payment of rent, education and medical bills for the needy, homeless, less privileged and the abandoned. Most of the money which is donated to the ministry is used to help the sick. When sick people come for help, they are given a note to one of the Catholic Hospitals (either St. Mary’s Catholic Hospital, Eleta, Ibadan or Our Lady of Apostles’ Catholic Hospital, Oluyoro, Oke-Ofa, Ibadan).

The note says that they should treat the sick person and send the bill to Fr. Riley. When people have psychiatric problems, we normally accompany them to UCH, the University Federal Teaching Hospital, and we pay for their treatment. The most important part of the ministry is not the money, but it is compassion and love and kindness. Please pray that we might be able to bring the love of Jesus to those who come for help.
